Disappearing Kiosk
Sunday, October 12, 2008
Last night I saw the Russian film Admiral, which has a lot of similarities to Titanic, including a fairly long runtime. On the way back to the dorm I remembered that I didn’t have anything for breakfast and knew that there wasn’t time to go to the 24 hour supermarket and still make it onto the campus before they locked the doors. Fortunately for me, there was a kiosk right across the street from our campus. I bought some water and food and we made it back just before one am when the doors close.
This morning I set off for church and noticed a very strange thing. The kiosk was no longer there and all that remained was a pile of debris and a bunch of pigeons picking through it.
Last night they seemed well stocked enough and there was no indication that the stand wouldn’t stay there for the foreseeable future. That’s the weird thing about doing so much of your shopping from more or less transient stores: they can just roll away without warning. I’d stopped there a few times before for cabbage pirozhki when I’d been running late somewhere and didn’t have time for a real meal. Now I’ll have to find another alternative.
This pile of garbage and leaves are all that remain of the kiosk that was once here.
